Sound Level Over Time

Current -- dB

Browser microphones are not calibrated sound-level meters. Readings are estimates and can vary by device, microphone processing and calibration.

01

How to use the decibel checker

Tap Start Measuring, allow microphone access, keep the microphone uncovered and watch the live reading. Use the calibration offset if you can compare the device against a known sound-level meter.

02

What the meter shows

The live panel tracks the current estimate plus minimum, average, maximum and peak levels. The chart keeps a short history so sudden changes are easier to spot.

03

Private by design

The microphone stream stays in the browser. DecibelChecker does not record, store or send your audio to a server.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real decibel meter?

It is a browser-based estimator. A calibrated SPL meter is required for certified or compliance measurements.

Why do readings differ between phones?

Microphones, automatic gain control and operating-system audio processing differ between devices. Calibration can reduce, but not remove, those differences.

Does the site record my microphone?

No. The tools process the live stream locally and do not upload or save audio.
